Making a Home

We're completely moved into our wonderful new apartment. We just love it here. I loved our first apartment together only for the fact that it's where we built our foundation and found our way to a stronger "us," but this new place....oh, it's an understatement to say we've both have felt ourselves relaxing in a way we didn't know we needed.

It's a palace compared to the last place. Just a bit bigger in square footage, but oh so much better. We have in-unit laundry (for the first time ever!) and a balcony. There's central air conditioning and lots of natural sunlight. We have room to breathe and grow and spread out, and that makes us feel cozier than our cozy small old apartment.

We're still in negotiations about artwork and personal touches. Joe likes the minimalist look we're sporting these days, but I want a few touches that make it ours....instead of a generic hotel room. But once we settle on those, then I'll share full apartment shots.

In the meantime, here's a few more glimpses into the way we're making this our home.

I didn't realize until after I uploaded this round of pictures that almost all involve flowers of some form. Amazing how much joy a $3 bouquet from the grocery store can bring.

We've already started making friends with our new neighbors and discovering neighborhood treasures, such as the fantastic sushi takeout spot just down the street. So delicious, so cheap!

Who ever said mouthwash had to stay in the tacky plastic bottle? I picked up this beside carafe from Crate and Barrel and decanted the plastic bottle of mouthwash. It adds a much needed splash of color into the bathroom while adding a touch of style too.

We spent part of the day Sunday on a new-to-us beach. One of the perks of this hot, hot, hot summer has been the fact that Lake Michigan is now actually comfortable to swim in. Most years, that's not the case and only kids are brave enough to swim in the icy cold waters for more than two minutes.

And that balcony of ours? We just love it. It's already been used daily.

Thanks ladies! We're trying to be a little more deliberate in making this place into our ideal....trying to avoid clutter while making it comfortable. I'm actually enjoying the process!
